Curry

Went out for a few beers with Dan and Mark last night. Not that I went on the "official" Christmas do, but I bet last night was better!! Its something that we should definitely do more often. Ended up taking in a curry at Balti Tower too (long, long time since I'd been there - but glad to see they still had my favourite Spinach, Mushroom & Potato Balti). Stuffed my self stupid (as always no moderation), and was going to walk home, but Dan & Mark persuaded me to take a can (and I'm glad they did 'cos it was really cold!)

Not blogged for a while, mainly cos we've been so busy getting ready for the holidays, but I think we're there now. On the wind down at work this week (its only a half week). This morning was definitely the first taste of winter (-5).

Went to the coal yard at the weekend to stock up on fuel for the fire over the christmas time.

Had some trouble with Florence's christmas present too - they'd changed the design of the bike, we'd ordered, so we had to get an older model (which is loads better than the new one).

Most people sitting in their coats at the office today, cos the heating isn't very good. Fingers are freezing.

Out for a beer later with "the good uns" which I'm looking forward too - Curry too hopefully!

How weird is this...

...today Tasha was in some shop and she dropped something. When she bent down to pick it up she noticed another woman with a pushchair close by, and when she stood up again it was her best friend from secondary school that she hasn't seen since she was sixteen.

They get chatting and it turns out that she still lives locally, in Hatton (just down the road). Tasha says "oh, I know Hatton quiet well cos Phil's Mum & Dad used to live there - where is it that you live".

THEY ONLY LIVE IN MY MUM'S OLD HOUSE!!!!

Florence took a relapse last night and started puking again. Took a few test shots with the new camera phone, not bad. It seems that a few more people are in the office today (thankfully beardy isn't one of them!)

07 December 2004

What a few days!

Its been a nightmare last few days for me. Firstly Florence came done with something on Saturday evening, and was basically throwing up about every hour until yesterday morning. She was just shattered and complaining that everywahere ached when she went to bed last night. Horrible to see her little body racking when she was being sick. Still she must have been feeling a little better last night cos she managed to start bossing Nate about again!!

Went to the Bullring yesterday for some good retail therapy and to try and do some Christmas shopping. Its so vast that I spent teh first half hour just wandering round, not knowing where to start!! So I took myself off to Borders, bought a few books, and had a hot choc. I then felf in a position to hit Selfridges. After the food hall, I got a bit delirious, and it was only only the train on the way home that I realised I'd forgotten to check out the Apple Store (sorry Mark). Still I bought so much that by lunchtime my shoulders where in real pain. Stopped at Bella Pasta, and when I came to pick up all the bags, knew that it was time to get the train.

Felt good using public transport for the whole day too.

General web musings

Working mainly from home this week, and by the sounds of it made the right decision. The mood in the office, hasn't improved AT ALL. Also the GRAIN team on site testing aren't in a great frame of mind, now that the new "technical advisor" has arrived.

Trawling the web last night, came up with a new Flickr client "1001", which not only allows you to upload you photos but will alos tell you when new photos from your contacts or favourite tags arrive. The link is in my furl list -->

Check out my new 2nd pad (I wish)

The new iPod photo seems a good idea too!

Just received our post, and theres a wine offer from TESCO. Its for some Grange 1997 (which you shouldn't drink until 2007), it has "..a sumptuous, dark chocolate and blackberry aroma.." and unfortunately a £106/bottle price tag!!!!!

28 November 2004

Busy Weekend (again)

Did the normal stuff Saturday morning, then all 4 of us cleared the back garden. Trash into the skip, general "winter tidy" of the garden etc. Watched Pirates of the Caribbean in the evening - very good movie (even without the Mr Depp factor)

Sunday, up early as Tasha had to go to church as she was a godparent for Jonah. Florence went too, and she went to Sunday school for the main bit of service and then came in for the christening. We all went over to Branston Golf club for the "do". They have a new beauty spar thing as part of the gym, with a "luxuries" shop - Nice!!

Had to go round to Mums on the way home to fix a you know when your parents are old because..... they can't follow the setup instructions to their new DVD/video unit. Ensuring the SCART lead is plugged in normally suffices!!

Poor Nate

Nate, bless him, is really poorly. Hes got a virus thats going around at the moment - full of cold, cough and keeps being sick. He still tries really hard to be cheerful, but he was in a bad way yesterday. He got up just as I was leaving the house this morning, and looked a little better, but we'll see when we get home.

Squash went well last night, and I didn't loose!! A Draw, my best result yet I think. HAd a good chat with Stubbs in the Bridge afterwards too, guest ale last night was "Bramble Stout".

Weekend Roundup

Very busy weekend. Florence did the ballet thing (as usual) and Nate & I went for our normal walk. Nate really not well (full of cold) and he'd got up really early. Tasha and Nate went to sleep in the afternoon which left Florence and me to raid the craft cupboard. Tasha out with the girls to Pastiche and had a really cool time (and loads of nice food).

Sunday again Nate & I up early and he full of cold. Spent the morning doing chores, but had a good homely feeling at the end. Nate again needed more sleep in the afternoon. The kids and I went down the road to brookhollows for an explore in the woods before tea, building up an appetite. Tasha at rehersal and I'm getting a bit of work done. Hopefully sitting down with Adrian the Guru tomorrow and can finally sort out my issues.

I've been thinking about my Grandad lately (who died last year) but one thing that also sticks in my mind is his amazing memory - unfortunately this trait was not passed on to me. He could look at a photo graph (say of him in India during the war) and tell me exactly what happened to him on the rest of that day.

With the onset of digital photography, blogs and Flickr I'd like to be able to record my day to day stuff better.

There are some great examples of people who take loads of photos (Fubuki & Timo etc) that in themselves are great pieces, but also when looked at as a set record things that happened during the day.

I'm starting off slowly (so that I don't loose steam too quickly like all my other GREAT ideas).

I also sent this photo down to Adrian on site, who obviously missed out on these!!

Productive only in the fact that we managed to get Florence sorted for a Xmas present. Watching 12 monkeys (for the 1st time sober) and its all becomes clear. Missing chunks due to alcohol is not good.

Thrills, Bills & Bellyaches...

What a busy weekend.

Florence's birthday party was held at the local school rooms - and was pretty darn good. Tasha worked very hard and it really paid off. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and Granny came (who was a star). Took loads of video which we watched on Sunday, some very emotional stuff (mainly with Nate being grown up and cute) Florence had done the normal ballet thing in the morning so was really tired by the time bedtime came.

Tasha & I went to the Mellows Bretby Dinner Dance on the evening - great food and plenty on chatting to good friends.

Sunday saw Florence going to another party, everyone suffering with tummy aches in the evening. Small tummies can only take so many sausage rolls I guess!!

Watched the feature length documentary on the Star Wars Bonus DVD last night. I'd not realised just how many pies George Lucas' companies are in, and how much outside work they'd done. Terminator, Titanic, Lord of the rings etc etc as well as him actually developing Pixar, then selling it off. Also not realised that he'd made most of the movies completely independently and had started the merchandising associated with movies. Wouldn't mind being a penny behind him!

Its been a while

Its just been really busy at work, and I promised not to talk about that! Had a great weekend, Tasha went out for most of it and Florence, Nate and myself were left to our own devices!!

Had a great night out with Mart & Al, Colin & Lisa on Friday - went to pepitos, and had the best mexican meal I've ever had. Looked in the diary to see when we could do it again and realised that Tasha and myself are fully booked at weekends until after Christmas!

Looking forward to Florences birthday this week. Am taking a trip to Toys r us at lunchtime.

Two people have now mentioned how shit my blogger photo is, i.e. not really looking like me - so I'm trying to find a new one.

11 October 2004

Now heres a thought...

Just think about this for a moment, thats more than most offices would have. A busy weekend end had by all but it was definitely worth it.

Monday morning depression seems to be very prevalent in the office this morning - what happened on Friday. Normally its at least lunchtime until that sets in, people are walking in with really long faces. Looks like it will be a day to plug in the ears and detach. At least I'm out of the office for most of the week.

Got in touch with Deb - missing painting with her weekly, but we are getting together on 13th Nov (my birthday) when I do the "light mood and atmosphere" day

The whats in your bag pool on Flickr is strangely appealing (or is that just me). I love bags and I'm also very nosey - seems perfect to me.

And the electrician said let there be light...

...and finally we got some (light that is). Melv did a fantastic job, swapped out the consumer unit and he ended up having to through a cable down the side of the house to provide the neutral that we dropped in the extention.

As ever our illustirous leader has managed to be out pretty much for the next fortnight! The office improvements that occured on Friday are poor too!!!

Had a really busy weekend, but did manage to get to go to the pool with Florence, which was good. Was un-nerving to find my Mum & Dad siting in the car park, waiting on the off chance that we were going!

Sorry about the number of posts for today - I figure short entries are easier to read???

I sent Mavis some information about a product, name and manufacturer a few days ago. He's just come to me to ask "...whether I can do some more digging to find out what it does - and what have you.."

Back into running

I've had what must be a month off running now, and tonight I decided that I'd go out. So as not to get downheartened I took my shortest route at a slow pace and didn't take my watch (that way I would think about the time it was taking me). That out of the way now and have decided that blogging about this will help me with the motivation. Have been feeling a bit under the weather all day but have perked up since the run.

Tasha is busy doing the painting - and making great progress (she will be finished by Saturday), so then its really only the plinths. We're then in the hands of Melv to fix the lights and then we can tile the wall and finished!!

Why is it...

... that when you get a puncture its always in your best tyre? Well it always happens to me like that. Got one on the way home last night - luckily working from home today so I can sort out getting a replacement. The hole is massive too, kind of 3 fingures big!

Tried the mini DVD thing last night after downloading some extra Nero tools - better but still the conversion pixelates the picture. Its no use I think I need a DVD writer!

Update - just had word from the garage that I actually need 4 new tyres as the others are "barely legal"

Must keep on my full Sky subscription, Tasha & I are getting quite used to spending evenings watching movies. Last night we watched

The transporter, which was good. Just our sort of film - loads of action (some A-Team level of unbeleivability), Kung Fu a plenty and some good fast driving scenes.

Managed to get all of the skirting boards fitted at the weekend, also managed to get all the little plastering jobs done too. Saturday night Tasha and I went to see "Half a sixpence". Ed was really good as Kipps, and Tasha's numbers were brilliant. Was great to see that they dragged Melv out of the audience at the end and he joined the cast on stage for the finale.

Poor old Mark seems to be getting a rough ride with the house move. Brings back the momories of when we moved, although never seems nearly as bad when your sittig drinking bubbly in the new house.

The great thing about the internet is that no stone is left unturned, and you can find just about anything out there - example

Still regretting not getting the pocket sized Sony camera in duty free. Have found it for nearly the same price. Write up

Foo Fighters - There is nothing left to lose

As soon as i get back in the office seem to be bogged down and not been able to get any blogging done. Maanged to clear my inbox and set up the new PC. The whole networking from home thing is really good - and others in the office have suddenly become very interested. Glad the wireless thing was painless enough to set up as well. Once the actual router was set up anything else that connected was straight onto the web.

Well trust the first bad report about Apple iTunes to be generated in the UK!! Also in the technology news is the fact that MS are loosing out in the browser wars (for the first time since computers were invented I think). I've just downloaded the new PRE_RELEASE version of Firefox - can't tell what the differences are (apart from the skins don't work)

My beach shots from Scotland aren't quite as sunny as Biz's. The S.A.D kicked in a bit this morning. The the days getting shorter and the fact that it was pissing it down meant that it was still dark when I got to work

Luckily I didn't come across deep fried mars bars or these on my trip

Check this OUT!!!

The entry is via email from my work network.  I'm accessing that from my new laptop, via wirless to my new router and then via the new secure server from HOME

ROCK ON!

Last day on site

Didn't finish the movie last night but thought what I watched was pretty gripping. I was joined on my early morning walk on the beach at St Fergus by a seal - which just popped out of the surf, waddled up the beach a little, turned on his heels and was off. The wildlife down on the beach is fantastic.

After that didn't get anythong done - so the entire visit was a bit of a waste of time... When I'm back I must catch up with the blogroll have missed it.

Site - 2nd day

More from offline blog...

Had a fantastic Scotish breakfast (thought I'd stock up for the day), got to site a lot sooner than I thought so was able to take a short walk up the beach. Beautiful - there is definitel something about having the entire coast for as far as you can see just to yourself.
This morning was taken up entirely by my induction. Normally these involve sitting listening to someone with a book showing you pictures or perhaps a video. We were issued with what looked like TV remotes. An audio power point type presentation was started (which lasted for 3 1/2 hours!!). At intervals there would be a series of questions and you had to use the buttons on the rmote to answer them. The remote was tied into your "induction account" and you didn't get site approved unless you got >80%
This afternoon was very slow. The site had to be cleared by 5pm because the plant is being pressurised for the first time. The Honeywell engineers were up to their ears getting ready for that and when we looked in their panel had terminated the our cable incorrectly. Hopefully the work can be done tonight or first think and I can actually get something done before coming home. Talking to the guy I'm working with today and found out that he too had been involved with the Huggies line we put in at KC - small world
Looking forward to supper!! Just catching some Siemens Mobile Wave Tour action - the voting for "best trick" is done by the audience using SMS tecnology...cool
Tonight I have dined on cream of muchroom soup and the hot ciabatta bread thing, aromatic crispy duck caesar salad and halibut with a lemon, herb and parmesan crust....yum! Now for watching 3 kings

First day on site

Haven't been blogging for a while because I've been on site. I did keep an offline blog, which I'm completing now (via wireless connection!!)

After checking in nice and early and getting me a good aisle seat near the front, I get to check in only to find that they've changed my seat (so that the trim of the aircraft was correct). Well I know lets put him just outside the engine housing. "So....you're an apple user" said the guy next to me when he saw my iPod. Thats cool I thought to myself a common topic found. You wouldn't here that kind of comment getting out a PDA or a windows laptop. Turned out he used to work for Apple! He'd obviouslt left that job however to persue his career as the world's fastest eater. Now I'm a fast eater, but this guy was blackening his finger nails. I'd barely opened the plastic cutlery packet and there were bits of veggie sausage flying my way from the blurred table to mouth action next to me. left a very rainy Birmingham, only to drop out of the clouds in Aberdeen to glorious sunshine - who'd have thought. It was very very windy however and the pilot "made sure of the landing" by slamming the aircraft down the last 30 feet. The wing dropped and very nearly hit the grass - Mr apple next to me grabbed the chair and my shoulder as he jumped out of his skin. Veena the hostess (who was sitting on my other side) just rolled her eyes.
Got to site and had a pretty unedventful day (apart from them deciding they pretty much want a complete re-write of the software). I didn't get much done other than sign the permit on. My site induction is happening tomorrow (3 hours of it).
Got to hotel in Peterhead to find that the town is the biggest white fish port in Europe - this should be promising for supper I thought. The hotel itself has an excellent fish brasserie and I manged to blow my entire daily allowance on supper. The only thing spoiling it was being on my own. Tasha will be very jealous. Had prawn and cray fish tail salas to start and crab stuffed monkfish, wrapped in parma ham and served with a cream muchsroom and tomato sauce. This followed the frsh and hot olive ciabatta and red pepper and tomato soup. The restaurant itself is was set in a kind of dance hall room.
Have retired to my room to watch Shaolin Soccer on DVD. Rang my sister tonight and she's getting married ti Mike in April!!!!

Check out some of the pictures from my visit

Mavis...a let-down

Now some weren't surprised, but when Mavis set off for Winchester to collect my new machine yesterday morning I thought that I might be getting it before the my site visit (where I do actually NEED it ) next week. My feelings weren't even dented when I saw him 1 hour later chatting in reception - not even having left the building.

He burst my bubble at 3.30pm when he rang and said that he was "so busy" and that he wasn't going to be leaving until gone 5 (what can be busy about picking up some boxes, especially when you know you have engineers that actually need the contents desperately)

Peter and I completed the bonding of the worktops last night. He did a great job of aligning them and the joints are now seemless.

Got a quick shower and went over to the opening of open studios at Ridware arts last night. Deb has got some fantastic new paintings and some huge pieces (so big they have to be float mounted) all in the style of the docks series

Blink182 - Enema of the state

Found out on Tuesday that we can use our existing ADSL connection when at home to access our corporate network. That'll certainly help when working from home! Hopefully that'll tie in with the new laptops, which we've been told will arrive in the office tomorrow - good for me going to site next week!!

Proud Dad

My not-so-little girl started scholl today. She looked really grown up in her uniform. There were no tears, in fact there was no looking back at all once we were in the playground!

Going out for lunchbbhbg b (sorry Natez is helping me type!!!)

Also found out last night that the chest pains my Mum had a few weeks ago was actually a heart attack!!!!

Well it was overheard that the BSi inspector thought that my project "was very impressive". Its nice that you get that, but its a real shame that he didn't pick IOG!!

The Bees - Sunshine Hit Me

Just found out some more things that I missed out on over the last few days.
  • Bobby Robson being replaced at Newcastle (I wrongly thought that he was loved up there)
  • England not doing very well against Austria
Also realised I'd not emailed Stubbs for ages, so fired one off this morning. How neglectful I've become.

It seems like the worst isn't over for the Floridians - after the second hurricane Frances turned round for a second go, it appears that another one, Ivan, is waiting in the wings to add to the misery.

James Bond technology is far to available to the general public these days!

Doc sums up the whole Russian school tragedy very well

In Beslan, the bad guys didn't just kill civilians. They killed children. Worse, they apparently carefully planned killing children they knew.
With the 911 attacks, Al Qaeda attacked symbols. Killing innocents was part of the plan, but not the whole purpose. Planes full of innocents were flown into highly symbolic buildings.
Now, in Russia, killing the most innocent of the innocent, the most loved, is a strategy put to practice.
Of course, it's been a strategy elsewhere for some time. It's not new. But I sense with this horrifying event some kind of corner has been turned. This wasn't a bus, a plane, or even a crowded market. It was a school: a place that embodies a society's care and love for its children.

worktop

worktop,

Piccie as promised, I think it sets it off now

Awful

When your out of the media loop, as I have been for the last few days, I find it really hard to come back in and realise that something so shocking has occured - its not the first time its happened either. The Russian seige is truely horrible and like Gary, you find it very difficult to start to coprehend your emotions as a parent. Dio has young'uns too and feels the same way

Peter came round yesterday afternoon to hig all the worktops. He was there for ages and then told me that I needed loads of compression bolts??!!?? Have been to B&Q on the way to work to pick some up. The worktop really makes the kitchen and the hob is kick ass - I'll post piccies.

The XP SP2 installation I left running over the weekend has appeared to been sucessful - we shall see if to knackers any of my software. Roll on the new laptops, every time I lean to much on the left hand side of the keyboard my ethernet connection drops - mavelous working for an IT company ou know!

Why does cool shit like this not happen to me???

Monkey Business

Nate got up at the semi-reasonable time of 0645 this morning. He is completely submerged in "Monkey Business" on Animal Planet. Just getting cooo's of "... Look Daddy - ponkey"

Well its actually going to be a very busy weekend in the kitchen. After thinking we'd have some waiting time for Peter to cut in our worktops he has now said that he'll come on Sunday lunchtime!!! This meabs that everything has got to be in by then

Progress is good though, and Melv said he'd be able to sort the lights (although we may have to rip up Florences floor!!!

Burn out

Now Playing Bjork - Medulla

Was seriously knackered last night, but managed to move the dishwasher and plumb it in, build the sink unit and wire the extractor fan in - but then had to hit the sack at 2130! Nate was very funny last night insisting that he wore his new monkey beanie all the time, couldn't quite get him to do the full on Avid Craig thing though!

Keith and Mark are both at home today, and SteveD is really busy so the bitching session never really took off. I ensconsed myself in the back room again though. Had email from Dave, who spent the weekend chilling on the beach at Hope Cove - nice!

The science museum have opened up their stores to the public - a great chance to see some really weird shit!! Shoof has created some very spooky looking portraits!!

Check out the others too!

Even my inactivity doesn't allow for this!
